An interschool sports competition was successfully organized today at Shree Tika Vidhyashram Secondary School, Sanepa, bringing together over 100 students from multiple government and government-supported schools across Lalitpur district. The event was held under the Nepal Community Sport and Health Cooperation Initiative, a flagship effort being implemented under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Population across Bagmati Province, with technical and implementation support from “Health Concern”.
The day-long competition aimed to promote physical activity, teamwork, and preventive health awareness among adolescents by strengthening links between schools and the health system. Students enthusiastically participated in Kho-Kho (boys), 100-meter running races (boys and girls), and volleyball competitions (boys), reflecting high levels of energy, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The event was graced by Ms. Susanne Gaerte, Senior Manager – Olympism365 at the International Olympic Committee, who is on an official visit to Nepal from January 23 to 26, 2026. Her presence underscored the importance of integrating Olympic values, youth engagement, and community health through school-based sports initiatives.
Also attending were members of the PATH Global team from the United States of America, including Ms. Helen McGuire, Global Program Lead – Non-Communicable Diseases, and Ms. Roshini George, Senior Program Officer. The delegation interacted with students, teachers, and school management committees, highlighting the role of regular physical activity in preventing non-communicable diseases and supporting adolescent mental and physical well-being.
Speaking on the occasion, organizers emphasized that the Community Sport and Health Cooperation Initiative is currently being implemented across four districts of Bagmati Province, positioning schools as critical platforms for early health promotion, life-skills development, and community engagement.
Teachers and school representatives welcomed the initiative, noting that such interschool competitions not only build confidence and healthy habits among children but also foster collaboration between education and health sectors. The event concluded with prize distribution and a collective commitment to continue promoting sports for health and holistic development among Nepal’s youth.
